David L. Hansen

On June 14, 2026 David Leon Hansen finished a long and courageous battle against dementia and moved on to his next calling. David was born on August 28, 1938 to Edmund Leroy and Norma Haskell Hansen in Payson, Utah. He spent his first years in Hueneme, California where his father worked in the fruit orchards. His brother, Raymond, was born in Oxnard in 1941. The family moved back to Payson where his sister, Charlotte was born in 1943. He had fond memories of growing up surrounded by family. He loved fishing and hunting with his dad and uncles and picking tomatoes on his Grandpa Haskell’s farm. As a teenager he worked in the Del Monte cannery. He attended Peteetneet School and graduated from Payson High School where he played baseball and basketball. He was a good athlete and participated in many other sports throughout his life – tennis, skiing, softball, bowling, golf, running, hiking, “church basketball” and was an umpire. In 1959 he married JoAnn Losser and they were blessed with three wonderful children, Cindy, Mikal and Elizabeth. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics in 1967 and a master’s degree in public administration in 1976. He worked as a surveyor, a draftsman, a statistician and a cost analyst in Utah and California. Although he was used to rounding off to the nearest million, he adjusted to managing our checkbook. He taught statistics at BYU Continuing Education and at California State University San Bernardino. He married Teresa Sagers in 1978 and they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. They are the parents of three awesome children, Jennifer, Sara and Aren. He has twenty grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all practically perfect. He has served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, one of his favorites being scouting. He served in the Bountiful and Ogden Temples. He and Teresa served missions in the Kaysville Bishop’s Storehouse and in the Texas Dallas and Utah Salt Lake City Missions where he was the Car Czar. It was a fitting assignment because he always loved cars and took breakdowns, accidents and speeding tickets in his stride. He was particularly fond of his Pontiac Firebird, GTO Judge and two Camaros. It was a sore trial when he had to stop driving. He loved the gospel, his family, his friends, mountains, beaches, Snickers and McDonald’s. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond. He is survived by his wife, his children, Cindy (Kim) Sorensen, Mikal (Debra) Hansen, Elizabeth Wiseman, Jennifer (William) Galvan, Sara (Jason) Forsberg, and Aren (Kelsey) Hansen, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his sister Charlotte (Martin) Dodge, sister-in-law, Virginia Hansen, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Leisa Sagers, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Grandchildren by birth, in-law and in-heart: Nathan, Lindsay, Aspen, Oliver, Cassidy, Thomas, Ethan, Mae, Sawyer, Landan, Hannah, Harper, Dylan, Abigail, Carter, Calvin, Zachary, Abigail, Conner, Madeline, Alexander, Sophia, Benjamin, Emily, Colton, Kathryn, Fisher, Anicka, Sc, Olivia, Tyler, Liam, Elliot, Harrison, Beatrice, Matilda, Soren, Ayisa and one arriving soon.

Services will be held on Monday, June 22 at the Jensen Park Ward Chapel at 3024 S 1200 W in Syracuse, Utah, with visitation at 10:00 am and funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment in Grantsville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Missionary or Humanitarian funds.
