James Leonard Lunt

James Leonard Lunt was born on November 16th, 1929 at Mammoth Utah to Edward Earl Lunt and Lela Delvore Racker Lunt. Jim passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2026 at his home in Grantsville Utah.
He was raised in Mammoth and enjoyed his childhood with 2 brothers Kenneth (older brother) and Steele (younger brother) who both proceeded him in death. He also had 2 other brothers who passed in their infancy, Joseph and Arnold. He spoke fondly of those years with his family. Jim Loved learning throughout his life and spoke often about the people who influenced him. He writes about how he loved Sundays and how much he looked forward to going to church and building his love of Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father. Jim gained a strong testimony of the truths and principles of the Gospel at an early age. He served faithfully in every calling that he was asked to fulfill for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Jim and Elaine served a Full-Time mission on one of the Reservations in South Dakota, and later, they served as Ordinance workers at the Salt Lake Temple. Each of these assignments brought much joy to each of them.
While living in Mammoth, Jim courted Margaret Elaine Erickson for 2 years and then they were married on March 30, 1953, while he was on leave from the Army Base in California. Jim writes that the honeymoon was very short (2days) so they decided to go to Salt Lake City and attend General Conference. He writes “This meant a lot to us and provided the base upon which our joining as one, was to continue” They were later sealed in the Manti Temple for Time and All Eternity
Jim was deployed to Korea a few days later. He served there for nearly 2 years and then returned to his beloved wife Elaine, in Mammoth, where they made their first home.
Jim worked in a variety of different and interesting jobs but ultimately his career was with the US Government where he received many awards and recognitions for his “job performance, his initiative and his diligence in protecting the Government’s interest and his ability to determine the proper course of action” wrote his supervisor. Jim retired with a GS-11.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Lunt and by 4 children. Steven James Lunt (Bonita Lunt), John Michael Lunt (Patricia Lunt) and his Twins, Renae Harkness (Cal Harkness) and Ramona Cannon (late husband Lynn Cannon) Their firstborn son David passed in Labor
They have 11 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren
We will all miss him and especially his sense of humor, which he maintained right up to the day before he left his mortal body.
Funeral Services will be held Friday Sept 11th, beginning with a viewing at 10:00-10:45am with Services starting at 11:00am at the LDS chapel located on 410 Shelley Ln, Grantsville 84029.
