Scott Lee Bevan

Scott Lee Bevan passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the young age of 66 due to heart failure. He fought a valiant fight suffering multiple heart attacks over the course of the past 5 months. He was lovingly known as the “miracle man” by many of his doctors, nurses and loved ones.

Scott was born on August 27, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marion Deloy Bevan and Marjorie Ann Green. He arrived very early, weighing just 3 pounds, 12 ounces. He came into this world with a strong determination to fight and live!

He grew up in Tooele, Utah, the youngest of 4 children with a 10-year age gap between him and his next sibling. Some might say he was the favorite and a little spoiled!

He graduated from Tooele High School in 1976. He tried his hand at bull riding and always joked he never actually rode bulls because he could never stay on!

He joined the Utah National Guard in 1977 and served his country for 14 years. It was there he learned culinary skills and gained a passion for cooking. A passion he excelled in and enjoyed for the remainder of his life.

He married his eternal companion Diane Ratcliffe in the Salt Lake City temple on September 14, 1979. They welcomed 4 children, Emily, Brandon, Lindsey and Breanne. They raised their children in Grantsville, Utah and together built a home of love and laughter. He wanted to be a father from the beginning and was truly the best of the best. Scott and Diane had a love story to envy. They so lovingly quoted “I often hug you in my thoughts and hope you feel it” throughout their 45-year marriage.

Scott worked many jobs during his lifetime including his time at US Magnesium and The University of Utah Hospital. However, much of his career was spent working as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense at The Tooele Army Depot, Deseret Chemical Depot and currently Hill Airforce Base. He always provided for his family. Something we all were forever grateful for.

He served his community for many years as an EMT, Fire fighter, co-chair of the Grantsville Sociable and most recently Grantsville City Councilman. Positions that he poured his heart into and enjoyed. When asked “Why in the world do you want to run for city council?” He simply answered, “It’s my turn to serve.”

Scott was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as Bishop, on the High Council, Ward Mission Leader, and his favorite and most recent calling, primary teacher. He had a fierce testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived his life as such.

You could always count on him for a good dad joke, his bear hugs and whistling a tune. He had a quick wit and a sense of humor that was unmatched. You learned quickly to never pull his finger! A lot of inside jokes were shared that only his kids would understand. He was always up for a scary movie, late night sci-fi flick, Harry Potter or National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation marathon. He enjoyed a round of golf, fishing, watching food network and spending time with his grandchildren which were his pride and joy. 

His family was his greatest achievement. He loved deeply, was truly a kind, gentle loving soul with a heart of gold.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; his sister Susan Carson (Bob); his children, Emily Hill (JC), Brandon (Stacy), Lindsey Nieves (Kelly), Breanne Viglione (Eric); his 11 grandchildren, Kade, Addison, Lauren, Luke, Ryker Nieves, Eli, Maelee, Jada Bevan, Elsie, Adele, Forrest Viglione; sisters in law Lynn Anderson (Jay), Julie Butler (Gary), brothers in law Bill Ratcliffe (Lisa), Craig Ratcliffe (Danielle); aunt, Beverly Haslam; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Marjorie; sister Sandra Riddle (Dee); brother Steven Bevan; and parents in law, Bill and Faye Ratcliffe.

The family would like to thank the incredible physicians and nurses at The University of Utah Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, and Mountain West Ambulance Service for their tireless efforts and outstanding care. Special thanks to Bishop Russ Harrington, the Relief Society of the Deseret Peak Ward, and Didericksen Memorial.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with a viewing from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. at The LDS Church Building located at 555 E. Durfee Street, Grantsville Utah. A viewing will also be held Friday January 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location.
