It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roger Ray Hammond who left us on September 19, 2024, at the age of 84.
Born on May 18, 1940, in Tooele, Utah to Wilson & Fern Hammond, Roger grew up with a love for adventure and the great outdoors; earning the rare distinction of Eagle Scout in his youth. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, stationed in multiple states and overseas. The pride of his service was often on display with his beloved “Veteran” cap.
He married Lyda Gay Peterson in 1960 and together they welcomed five children. After his military service, Roger settled his family in Utah. He immersed himself in his children’s sports teams – often coaching and even serving as President of the Little League. An avid outdoorsman, he especially cherished any time spent hunting & camping in the Uinta Mountains with family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings; Jay (Loralee), Linda Roberds, and Marilyn (Don) Pearson, and his children; sons Troy (Amy), Todd (Pat), Tony, Travis (Cassie), and daughter Barbara (Travis) Mullikin and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Wayne, and his love, Lyda.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Friday, September 27, 2024 with a viewing held one hour prior. Both services will be held at the LDS Church located at 115 E Cherry St, Grantsville. Interment will follow at the Grantsville Cemetery.
