Marion Gong

Marion Kim Gong passed away peacefully October 21, 2013 in the company of her daughter and grandson. She was 91 years old and died of age-related causes. Marion was born June 15, 1922 in San Francisco, California to Gee Ching and Ho Chan Lee. She married Milton Ronald Gong on September 9, 1953. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland temple. They had two children, Kathryn (Russ) Jones, of Grantsville, Utah; and Richard of Belmont, California. Marion graduated from the University of California at Berkeley (Cal Berkeley) in Home Economics and Food Science in 1942. She remained an avid Cal Bears football fan throughout her life. She worked most of her life as an electrical tester at Lenkurt, a division of General Telephone and Electric but had many other jobs, such as food service supervisor at Stanford Hospital, food analyst for the US Army, and troubleshooting or repairing ATM machines. Marion and her immediate family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966. She enjoyed serving for many years in the Family History Center and in various other callings. Marion was known as being quiet, happy, intelligent, and talented in many areas. She enjoyed cooking, 49ers and Cal football, pets, and watching late night movies. Marion lived most of her life in Belmont, California but came to live in Utah in 2007. She lived at Cottage Glen Assisted Living and Diamond Jane’s Assisted Living, where she most recently resided. She liked the small town atmosphere of our county but sorely missed the mild Bay Area weather. Marion is survived by her two children; grandson, Gary M. Jones; and by a sister, Alta (Ben) Yip of San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Elizabeth (Ed) Chong. Following her requests, no services will be held. Marion will be buried with her husband at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Her family would like to thank her many health care providers, assisted living staff, and Pine Mountain Health Care and Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Best Friends Animal Society or your local animal shelter. Arrangements entrusted with Didericksen Memorial, (435) 277-0050.
