John Fred Holm passed away unexpectedly on March 2, 2015. He was painting a floor in preparation for a new quilting machine as a surprise for his beloved wife when died of a heart attack. John was born June 6, 1949 in Milford, UT to Kathlyn O’Leary Holm and James Victor Holm (deceased). He was the second of four rambunctious boys. The family later moved to Salt Lake City, where John attended East High School, and graduated in 1967. He later attended the University of Utah. John married his best friend Margie Lynne Hendriksen on January 25, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. He often called Margie either “Sweetheart” or simply “Hey, good-lookin’!” Together they had one daughter, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Lynn Holm of whom he was protective, proud and who he loved deeply. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. John enjoyed serving in the scouts, teaching the high priests group, and he loved researching genealogy and doing indexing. He loved his family greatly and provided a place in his home for his widowed mother, Kathlyn, for the past 17 years. He loved teasing his nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was his daughter, Betsy. John had recently retired from CenturyLink, where he had worked for many years. Previous to CenturyLink, he worked for several car dealerships including Ken Garff Saab and Mercedes. John was passionate about cars, auto mechanics and racing. He loved the science behind making cars go faster. He made many friends around the world through online forums that shared these same automotive interests. He also loved all the furry babies adopted from animal rescue agencies. His heart was soft and tender toward all children and animals. Peanut will miss John. John made many deep friendships beginning in high school that would last his entire life. He truly cherished these friends, and loved to tell wildly entertaining (and possibly slightly embellished) stories about ‘the good old days’. Coworkers, neighbors, family members and fellow church members loved John’s fun nature and great spirit. He will be sorely missed by many, most especially by Margie who loves him still and anxiously looks forward to spending eternity with him. John is survived by his mother, Kathlyn O’Leary Holm; wife, Margie Lynne Holm; daughter, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Lynn Holm; brothers, Terry V. Holm (Claudia), Guy O. Holm (Nancy), and Bert K. Holm (Reva). Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the LDS Church at 81 Church St, Grantsville, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to services. Interment will follow at Grantsville City Cemetery. Services entrusted with Didericksen Memorial, 435-277-0050.
