Elbert Raynor Lawrence, Jr.
(1927 – 2019)
Elbert Raynor Lawrence, Jr. passed away peacefully at home at age 92 on July 2, 2019. Bert
was born on June 23, 1927 in Grantsville, Utah, the son of Elbert R. and Goldie Judd Lawrence.
He graduated from Grantsville High School in 1945. He served in the Navy during World War II,
and graduated from Brigham Young University. He worked at Morton Salt until the 1990s.
Bert married Lois Parkinson on March 19, 1954, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake
Temple. They had four children: Annalyn (Dodd) Greer, Judd (Christine) Lawrence, Jeane
(Alex) Robinson, and Elliot (Gracelyn) Lawrence. In addition to working full-time at Morton Salt,
Bert was a full-time cattle rancher with his brother, dedicating countless hours tending to “the
cows.” He was the hardest working man most people ever knew, continuing to work on the farm
well into his 80s. He loved the outdoors and hunting, and also enjoyed attending plays and
traveling with his wife. He was loved and respected in Grantsville, where he lived all his life.
Above all else, Bert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, teaching his children and
grandchildren the value of hard work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David (Lois) Lawrence and sister Alice
“Onnie” (Norman) Wills, and son-in-law Myron Abraham. He is survived by his wife of 65 years,
his children, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sister Betty (Ray) Drake, sister-
in-law Maralee Parkinson and about 100 or so cows.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm on July 5, 2019 at the LDS Chapel located at 81 North
Church Street, Grantsville, Utah. An additional viewing will be held at the same address
beginning at 10 am on July 6, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am.
