Douglas Kent Black passed away March 29, 2020 surrounded by his family in his home after a 3-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 25, 1948 in Salt Lake City Utah to Fern and Floyd Black and was raised in Sugar House. He served in the United States Army from 1967-1972 where he fought in the Vietnam War. After returning, he attended the University of Utah and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering. Doug married Karrie Hale and moved to Erda, UT where they raised their son and had a small farm; Karrie and Doug later divorced. Douglas then married Kathleen (Kass) Bryan. He worked as an Engineer for Mine and Mill Engineering, and later Greymont Engineering, where he designed mines worldwide. Doug enjoyed riding horses, rock hounding, spending time on his hobby farm, and fishing and camping with his family. One could always find Douglas watching old western and war movies.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents Fern and Floyd Black, wife Karrie, Sister-in-law Brenda, Niece Megan. He is survived by his second wife Kass Black, son Connor (Sierra) Black, siblings Jed (Teddy) Black, Karma (Mel) Sanders, Dave (Teri) Black, Mike Black, Robert (Marqueax) Black.
A private graveside service will be held at Utah Veterans Memorial Park cemetery Thursday, April 2, 2020.
