Andrea Smith Tate, 63, of Tooele, Utah, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a courageous year-long battle with stage 4 lung cancer.

Born on April 9, 1961, in Tooele, Utah, Andrea was the beloved daughter of Rachel Ardella Calton and George Lynn Smith. She was number six of seven siblings: Lynnette Smith, Delajean Smith (Milo) Berry, Deanna Smith (John) Hislop, Greg (Ellen) Smith, Gary (Lori) Smith, and Gerald (Lea) Smith. 

Andrea shared a remarkable love story with her husband, Mark David Tate. High school sweethearts, the two were married at the young age of 18 and spent an incredible 45 years building a life together filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Andrea was not only a loving mother and grandmother but also a devoted and extraordinary wife who supported and cherished Mark throughout their life together. 

She was a caring and loving mother to her five children: Cassie Tate (Dan Owen), Kacey Tate, Mark Gary Tate, Kami Tate (Chris) Fields, and Michael Lynn Tate. Her pride and joy extended to her grandchildren: Kaitlin, Kalissa, Kimber and Kori Palmer. Cambrie and Kennadie Owen, Theia and Mark James Tate. Logan, Matajia, Miyah, Kal-El, Kanon, Korbyn, Kingston and Kamden Fields. Each of whom she cherished deeply

Andrea’s life was marked by her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and her dedication to her family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in; Relief Society, Primary, Young Women, Cub and Boy Scouts, was Girl’s Camp Director for 11 years, and as a Family History Consultant. Her most recent calling was serving in the Grantsville Family History Library which she loved dearly. She found joy in serving others, just as her mother had done, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met with her kindness and compassion. 

Professionally, Andrea worked for; the Tooele County Aging Services in Grantsville,Tooele County School District, serving as an adult education secretary, then registrar and secretary at Clark Johnsen Jr High. 

Her greatest accomplishments were found at home as a wife, a mother, and grandmother. She raised her children with love, taught them faith and service, and created a home filled with warmth and joy. 

She supported each of her children in their many interests and sporting events, as well as her nieces and nephews which she considered “hers”. She maintained close relationships with each of her siblings, as well. 

Andrea’s passions were many: she loved crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, plastic canvas, Emergency Preparedness & food storage, Family History, cooking alongside her husband, boating at Lake Powell with family and friends and sharing her love for Star Wars and Disney princesses, especially, Tinker Bell. She was a true patriot and loved the U.S. Flag and the constitution. She was a selfless giver, always putting others before herself and finding ways to make those around her feel loved and supported. 

Andrea is survived by her husband; children; grandchildren; siblings; nieces and nephews; her mother-in-law, Joyce Kirk Tate; brothers-in-law, Neal (Barbra) Tate, Paul (Carolee) Tate, sister-in-law, Marcy Hardy. Preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, E. Gary Tate, three nephews and one niece.

Andrea’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever remember her for her faith, generosity, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. 

Funeral Services: Services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 12:00 PM at 415 W Apple St, Grantsville. A viewing will take place prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:45 AM. Interment will follow at Tooele City Cemetery.
